Taipei Health IoT Hackathon
I joined a hackathon recently...
Hackers and health people meet up, have some tutorials in chinese...and are suppose to solve and pitch application issues...
Hackathon is more common nowadays sinec Open Data is a hot topic.
Lets see how it all ends...
Just like a LAN party, they have a lot of free stuff...the difference is that there is a bigger eceonomical and business interest in hackathons than LAN parties...
An afternoon in ximen
I spent some afternoon in ximen recently
One of my swedish friend attended too
We went to the bear bar, I had a yeguo milk tea
And a singaporesling
Some locals were fixing the broken signs after the typhoon
Later I had a strawberry icedrink
Later on we headed to a local burger bar
And had a cheesy burger
Many people were in ximen this typhoon day
After that we headed to some bar specializing on beer from taiwan, even they didnt have my favorites...
Mostly IPA´s

I will try to visit this place next time I go there
It was a little bitter...
We also observed skaters at Ximen cinema park
I later on tried some new local honey drink
Had a fried food platter
And ended with a drink at Dalida...some wierd sangria...
Bordeaux and bread
Theres been some rare typhoon passing by taiwan recently...the typhoon seasoin is june to october..so its pretty late for typhoons...and they striked near taipei also...
Luckily wine is cheap here...so I tried some bordeax, inbetween my outside adventures..cycling around taipei...
Peanut butter and icecream
I have been eating alot of peanutbutter lately
I recently added it to icecream...it wasnt as good as I expected, (like the peanutbutter cup at coldstone), I cuess the icecream was wrong flavour...
Typhoon times
Typhone times are june to october in taiwan...
Its rather rare the he typhoon hits taipei...but now it did...the typhoons came rather late to taiwan 2016...maybe do to global warming...(millions of scooters always idling, and largest coal power plant in the world...taiwan embraces a climate change)
Also schools and public jobs are free tomorrow. due to tyhpoon..so it means its crowded at the restaurants and cinemas

I went to ximen recently...to get some food
But due to typhoon most things seemed to be closed :S
Some roof was catched by the wind...
Some later stop were at this spanish place
Some sausage and beer
And some risotto
And pizza...

I joined an event with Business Sweden recently
Some governmental secrettary Oscar Stenström joined up...
Some formal speech...
And a group photo

And some snacks...
Also some local companies were there
And ericsson talked..pretty interesting
IoT is a buzzword...I like buzzwords

I also met a finish guy who was interesting
And we later went for a dinner
And Oscar Stenström gave a taiwanese guy a medal, from the king

It was in Xinyi district..many clubs and malls...people said typhoon is coming...who knows...
An interestingting pubcrawl
I went for a pub crawls recently...in taipei..with focus on local breweries...
It was mainly meant for some swedish friends...but some never showed up...however 3 taiwanese showed up...it was intersting..
The group at paulaner...on of the tais started to eat from my friends plate suddenly...
Its disturbing that they have service charge...always hard to calculate the price...why no include it in the price?
We also passed by hooters
Second brewery was jollys...me any some frined went for trying 3 kinds...
I let my friend pick the beers..
We also had curry...also here a tai suddenly took one of my beers...put it at his place..and finally finished it...intersting indeed...
GuoPing was there with his friend....who only wanted to meet girls...he said "bye" to us some times...not sure why, since he was heading with us all the time...
Gouping tried this spicy dressing...with the argumetn that he wanted some excitement...ti was really hot...
He quitckly ordered rice..

A trip to the north coast
I went to the north coast recently...
Passing by a motocycle burger bar
They had kopparberg cider
"TO Motor club"
I ordered their biggest burder...it said "6 inch"...but they should have written "6 inch bread"...its very common in taiwan, that u serve a big bread, and small meat...
yep...4 peices of small patties in the bottom
NExt stop was water fall near by
The tais has a habbit to blaime government for not be safe enough, if you hurt yourself on a public trail...as a result the government close a trail as soon as a small peice gets broken....then its suddenly "at your own risk"...

It was maybe 10-15 meters high
A small creek went alon the path all the way...
And some tais were selling vegetables along the path...not sure why they did it here...to plans to buy vegetables (and raw sweet potato) when going for a hike...?

Next place was the northenmost place of taiwan...its probably the 3rd of 4th time im here...

He did an internship in a company here, and might come back to Taiwan in the future as a consultant...
Last day in danlin
People are leaving Danlin...the harvest festival is over
Some people are heading to Taoyuan
Some other are still at Geais house
Some heavy rain started jsut before lunch
But we got a pick up driving to the nearest train station

Day after Harvets festival in Danlin
I finally got a glimpe ofr Geais room...
...his brother slept here this morning...
We decided later on this sunday to head to "Pineapple"...which is the place to be for the local people
It is called pineapple beucause it is near a pineapple field...however I found some bananas
I guess they werent ready yet...pretty bitter
Around here is the pineapple house
Later at Samulaval people got theyr hair cut by a guy who works in a barber shop
They also started some BBQ
Many people gathered
This is a funny guy, they have many characters here in Danlin...he lived in Taoyuan usually but comes from Danlin
The meat got ready...
We also started to taste the swedish Vodka
Later on we got invited to catch crabs...
We needed boots and pants and gloves...cus there were snakes at the river bank where we were going to...

I emptied my pockets before heading to the river...we would probably get very wet...I allso found a swedish flag...which Geai coincidentally asked for some day ago...

We found many frogs to start with
And headed up stream
Sometimes the water was up to waist

It reminded me of catching crabs in sweden...just look under the stones
But these were fresh water crabs
Most of them were red
After some 30 minutes we had like 20 of them
Time for a short break
Geais mom brought some drink
We also spotted some green snake...i think it might have been a bamboo viper
It was pretty still...but moved after a while
The higher upsteam we went, the more crabs we found...we also saw eyes in the dark...trying to identify what it could be...luckily it was some small dog running around 9in the deep forrest...
Bubba found some awesome pattern on a rock...
It was too amazing not to catch on a pic...

They were put on a bowl with hot water
And mixed with garlic and spices
I wonder if I can eat the swedish crabs like this...people always say they are "too small" to be eaten...
It was rather calm Danlin night this sunday...many people preparing for monday

And so did bubba...so I had to be the representative when it came with drinking with the locals

Harvets festival in Danlin day 2
The second day of harvest festival, there were alot of sports activites
We passed by the volleyball, where nearby villages were invted to compete
Omg...tape of swedish flag...
Another sport was the relay...
Started uphill
And went around the village
After the sports events...we went to a local carrefour....I was asked to make some swedish food...but ended up making spagetti with meat sauce...bubba is an "italian american"...so he spirit to make it "non swedish"...
We tried to find spices and herbs...after 20 minutes of asking and looking...we finally found the shelf...so hard when not even the staff knows....
We were also heading to McDonalds...but got busy on the way...
We chilled in the car on the way back...listening to some house, and RnB music...I tried to catch a sign saying "taiwan" which is the name of the convenient store...no other text...sometimes its hard to know where to find things here...when not even the store tells what they have
Well back in Danlin there were some prize ceremoney
And alot of BBQ

Bubba baought this drink, containing caffein, alcohol, nicotin, taurin, chinese medicine etc...seems like a bottle of power fuel

Later on we headed back to Geais house (which is called Samulavan)
We made the spagetti and meat sauce
The had one stove...and it was a pretty intense flame, so I managed to burn the spagetti a littleb it...luckily I removed the burned part and when the food was done, it wasnt noticeable
It is pretty "heavy food" compare to the local food...alot of pasta, butter and cheese...we were told to cook for 20 people, we made it for 10, and since many people pass by Samulavan during the night, the pasta was gone by sunday...
An aunt brought some Swedish Absolute Vodka for "sundays consuption"
We headed to the baskedball field to chill when other people went to rest
And we did some people watching...
We decided to leave the place after a while, and donated some dring to the ghosts nearby

Before the day was gone...we also went to a nearby breakfast place...for some sandwich before sunday started...
Harvest festival in Danlin
It is 7 in teh morning, and time for harvest festival
Geai and his brother are preparing for some traditinal dance
I got a necklace...
...and s west....

We watched some girls dance...
They hold their hands and sing some traditional songs
Later it was the guys turn
This guy had a cool hat
We later headed up to some ceremonial place...and were informed about some history about the village
And had some ricewine
Then some more dance...
And more speach...
Geai doesnt speak that well Paiwan language so his cousin translated...
Then the guys condinued...in the southern taiwanese sun...
They were suppose to run around the village
For about 10 minutes...
The girls were waiting
And the elder...
There they come...
They continued further down towards some other village
But eventually returned to where they started
Many people were here taking pics of this event
They were unified on their way back
And then they finished by more dancing
On theid back they have people holding hands
Some jackets had more people, seems like it is mostly decoration...and the amount of people has no meaning....

He (the guy to the right) worked with selling and developing screens...

And after this dance, it was time for som drinking with the locals
Next step was to chop wood...

According to tradition guys leaves a pile of wood to the house he wants to get a girl from
Eventually it started to rain...seems like some typhoon is passing by the south of taiwan..but no wind....

We put the logs inside, for them to dry

Even the kids where carrying some logs

Later on we went to dance again
And it reached 18...and sun was setting ofer pingdong
Some local guys were then practicing for a performance later in the night
And a new costume was used...since Geai is royal he has some wild cat fur on the back of his west

After some traditional dance together...a DJ started some music
And everyone danced to the DJs music
We also had some millet wine
It was a nice event...with traditional outfit

Later on the cleaning session started

It is a rather small village...it is very common that people mingle around to the places where they have many people living at...so in theory if u live on a road that is easy and convienent to go to...and u have something to treat...people will show up..

Eventually the friday was over....and it was time for getting to bed...
Arrived to Danlin for harvest festival
I went to Danlin in the night...got picked up by Geai

We also had some local meet
And Bubba and a local guy called Guanna was digging the sound

After some hours people cleaned up...
And we were heading up hill...I got a ride from a guy living in taoyuan

And we later on decided to head to the nearest village, Geai and bubba both with camouflage shirts

We went back up to Danlin with the food...and later on went to bed...tomorrow Harvest festival starts...
Road to Ultra Taiwan 2016
I went to a festival recently called road to ultre
Just as the hardwell concert..it was a rather long queue
Not sure why...but they checked your body and bags with these scanners...letting everything pass anyway...even when it was triggering an alarm
THey didnt let any drinks nor cigarettes in...I guess they sold the rights to specific companies
1 heineked beer on can=200nt...(50SEK)...
They also had some strange girls dancing inbetween each DJ on a separate stage

Aleso played later...he had some strange remixes...it often feels like DJs are epxeimenting with wierd remixes in taiwan...
The whole DJ line up came from the Ultra festival in Singapore the day before
Too bad that Axwell and Ingrosso and Kygo didnt show up...maybe tropical house and progressive house is that appreciated in Taiwan compare to Hiphop n RnB...
1 can of coke=100nt (25SEK)...pretty expensive

Later on Afrojack, DJ snake and Deadmau5 played
Seems like DJ Snake attracted the Taiwan ppl the most..they prefer Hiphop n RnB or whatever is american...(in general)
The night was ended with a ximen visit...
A meeting with swedish students
I was invited to talk with swedish students who recentyl come to taiwan
It was at Gusto Tapoas
They had some tapas food and some other snacks
It was ok...even it maybe a littlebit expensive...

I joined an event recently

Not sure exlusive food, but the people in this kind of environment debit their companies...so the hosts usually charge high

After some hours everyone went home
Me and robin headed to ximen...he lives nearby there
We had a dark draft beer
And a strawberry mojito...(what did johan eat today?...now u know...)
Longshan with my Taroko friend
I went to Longshan night market recently with my Taroko friend
He recommended slized ice
I incisted on "only friuts, no vegetables or beans"...its usually a successful combiniation, since strawberries, pineapple and passion fruit are all naturally sweet...peanuts, red beans and green beans are not...thus its hard to fit them as an ice cream flavour...
We passed by the geocache I been spotting in the temple..but the area where it can be found was closed...
I also tried some fish mash..that was fried and dipped in some strange tomato sauce
My taroko friend also wanted to play on the arcade games...i told him how useless it was...and after 5 minutes, he spent all his 100nt...on missing grabbing some arge slippery item he probably never would have bought with some small metallic arm that never grips when it should...
But the hope is the last thing that leaves the human brain
Still some cash to be wasted...
Dumpstring in Taipei
I found a place where one can dumpstre dive in Taipei...or "fridge dive"...
Many times the stores fake "discounts" since tais are soo into chepaer price that they dont even mind calculating the differnce...but in this case it is free...
I will try it out...
A trip to hsinchu
I went to hsinchu recently to check for some library books
I had a 7-11 beer while there...
And inspected the new cinema faciliteis...with sound isolation..and spot directing
And went for some student food
I also checked taiws playing pokemon go...locals like cute icoans and animals...
I had some 18 days taiwanese beer later on...
Weekend hotpot
I went to a hotpot recently
On a cloudy september day
Seeing some locals wearing the same dress
I picked tomato flavour...
And went for the icecream
...and fish...
...and shrimps...
...i finished with more icecream...what did johan eat today?...seafood and icecream....
A ximen visit
Seems like im going to ximen all the time...
I passed by for some pizza there some days ago
I also went to a taiwanese place..where I had some sweet n sour sauce wth fish...
And later on I passed by a bar called The 58" where they sell taiwanese beer
It was rather expensive...some banana beer
I also had some fat food...cheese n fried things...
And some dark beer I think was brewed in Taoyuan...but their headquarters were in Singapore...
I ended the visit with a G2 paradise stay...nothing new there...
