Surfing in Waiao - June 2016

I went to Waiao again...
Toilet paper aparently solve itself in water, but still in taiwan they ask you to collect the used toilet paper in a bucket
After the toilet paper analysys I headed to Waiao
My friends went with Hugo, who has a place in his car for the boards
It was a hot day
Hugo suggested this place
He also bought some towel poncho
He knows the owner
Lydia wanted to have extra wax
I wanted to have an estra parasol
Not much waves when we arrives, the best is 6-8 and 16-18
Amine managed to do some nice knee slides
It was hist first time to surf
Some waves
Some guy trying to fish
Lydia was good
Turtle island in the horizon
And many paraglider
Some waves eventually came
More surfing action
I was rather lazy, and catched maybe 2-4 waves during the whole day
Some locals were really good
I aso brough Yilan beer
At 16 the waves became higher
More locals locals showed up
Later we went back to the store
I had some more yilan beer
Hugo was checking his board...2016 continues

A day on the east coast

I did a trip to the east coast some day ago...
Omg...a fjällräven bag in the MRT...
It was just right after lunch...the morning is said to be the best surfing...but im not sure why...
Kris joined up, after a trip to Hongkong...
It didnt take long before we reached the mountain area...
Kris is uing plecco...a cool translatio tool...
He swaps the phone ever some text...and it identifies and translates the characters directly...
Waiao...
The girl at the surfing shop was funny...
I bougt my surfer shorts from here 6 years ago...
The sand was pretty dark...
The guy in red shorts os our guy...
They put more efforts in life guards nowadays than before...the other guy in red was playing baywatch...
I had my sunhat, with some root from laos...
...which I bought in Hochiming city...
Our man tried to explain how to surf...even if we have surfed before...the board he was using was a litle broken...
Even if it was afternoon many surfers were out there...
After some hours of floating around in the sea we were heading back...just like in Knäbäckshusen in Skåne, they have routines to get rid of the sand from the feet here too...
The houses here are really nice...
We ended trip with an all you can eat...
This is what Johan ate today...
...and this...

A surf trip to Waiao

Me and some classmates went to Waiao to surf...

23 degrees 7am...in taipei...

We took the train to the east coast...

I brought honey beer...super good...

There we rented some boards...

 And shirts...

A guy teaching some of us how to do...

It was 27 degrees (C) in the water...

 Emerson was joking around...

 Super funny...

 So was Pablo...

Emerson taught Kuoping to do theGangnam style dance...

He did it ok...

Also Michel Jackson was imitated...

Time to surf...Turtle island in the background...

Our boards...

After some hour surfing we ordered some food...

 We also ahd beer etc...

Many people were far away...where the higher waves were...

I should come here more often...practice makes perfect...

 Lunch box included chicken...

It is tiring to surf...very salyt water and burning sun...so we took many rests...non of us slept much last night since we had to go up early...

Waiao...I passed by many times...it was 2008 I came ehre the first time...

Emerson...surfer professional...

Running around...he had a wetsuit...I thought that was to warm...

It looked like it would be rain...whenever...

But we were lucky...it was sunny most of the time...

Kuoping in acton...

 Emerson...posing...
Time to surf the third time...

Pablo has been surfing before...in Bali...

He was pretty good...

Now his ready for action...

Last waves for today...

There were many foreigners at the beach, we even met some old classmates fomr NCTU here...
Time to go back...around 2pm...
Big boards...
Wai ao...not sure why they changed the text...on the sign...
It was crowded on the way back...especially when we came closer to taipei...
We paid a short visit to the maid cafe just to check it out...its a japanese style cafe...
But we ended up at a BBQ allyoucaneat near taipei main station...
Alot of meat...
And dressing and salad...
We also got some korean shots...
It was ok...but I liked the ximen BBQ better...
EVentually they also added prawns to the buffet...after the meal we all were pretty tired...we have some sleep to catch up on...

Surfin safari

I went to surf last sunday/monday...

(click on the pickture)
It was exotic as usual...both kenting and the east coast is so relaxing, and makes u feel like u are on some tropical island (on which u actually r) compare to the west coast...that more feels like u r in china...with traffic and night market etc...

It is also exotic with all the mountins on Taiwan...I will become a more active member of the moutian climbing club later on...when they provide more challanging moutains than some hills...

I observed this car, that has its rear view mirror showing the back seat...so interesting...

We had to pass by Taipei, to get to the east coast, we could see Taipei 101 far away...

As always when I take the car to the east coast I have to pass by many tunnels...some longer than 12 km...(other times I take the train)

I passed by a village that had both Lions and Rotary banners...it is kind of common here in Taiwan...and its interesting, since it is also common in Sweden with these organisations, however they seldom show their logos as frequently as here in Taiwan.

I the horizon I could see the Turtle island...

They had stands with my initials...

And warning signs only in chinese...so frustrating...

It was almost full moon...and alot of fishing boats had theor spotlights on...

I saw frogs for sale...so exotic...and a little grose...

As usual they had interesting entertainment nea the beach at the surf stores...live bands etc...

I use to rent the board at the beach...

The best surfing time is at 6 am...I was a little late...but the waves were still ok...

This is my board...a little shorter than usualy. since I want to b able to turn...
But the beach only allows u to surf less than 10-20 seconds...
it is mostly for beginners here...

In Taiwan it says "0km", as a distance...that is exotic...it is a way to tell that some thing starts from here...

It was alot of queues when heading back...since many people from Taipei use to go here during weekends...

I also passed by IKEA on the way back...soi annoying...driving car in Taipei...since it was forbidden to do left turns and U-turns...it took super long time before I could get where I wanted. I hope it will take a long time before I need to do that again...
