Taiwan cold culture
When the tais catch a cold they ofter use a mask. it lis like a filter covering the mounth and nose...the air often slips out from the sides (not from the filter), i am not sure about if it really helps...but i guess if you sneeze there will not be that many water drips (that usually covers a range of 4m) that contaminate the area.

I heard in Japan it is considered polite to wear mask while having a cold.
